The Beginning of the End...

Today marks the end of my first two weeks of student teaching; my last semester at Miami. It's starting to sink now that I'm going to school every morning instead of waking up late for class that this is the life I've signed up for. Time to be a grown up! I'm so excited... lol.

I think the most interesting thing I've observed from these first couple of weeks is that there are noticeable things about each child’s personality that you can tell have been developed due to how their parents treat them. There are the more independent ones who always take charge, and then there are the babied ones. And you can tell the ones who are siblings who are just kind of there for the ride. They all have very distinct personalities and their reactions and responses to things crack me up sometimes because they are just so honest.

Working with 4th-6th grade I've come to the realization that you can only get through about 1 lesson a month. That's completely frustrating because we only have 45 minutes with the kids. It takes me 45 minutes just to decide what I'm going to draw, let alone having to teach them a concept, show them a technique and then give them time to experiment with what they've learned. It's ridiculousness.
